Information Retention - A problem
Through synthesis and analysis, the team realized that the museum’s information is hard to retain, and visitor engagement remains largely passive - limiting deeper connection with Warhol’s life and work.

Current modes of sequential placement of artwork is disconnecting for visitors.

Current modes are not able to provide enough context for visitors to understand the art work.

Receiving information is a very passive experience.
Through synthesis and analysis, the team realized that the museum’s information is hard to retain, and visitor engagement remains largely passive—limiting deeper connection with Warhol’s life and work.

So, How can we ?
Create immersive experiences through which visitors can learn about -
The Artist + His Inspiration + His Techniques
so that those who have a limited knowledge of Andy Warhol can appreciate the artist and his artwork during their museum journey.
DESIGN SOLUTION
WarhoLens - A multi level Mixed Reality immersive exhibit through the life and works of Andy Warhol

DESIGNING THE EXPERIENCE
Creating a Design System and Library for mixed reality, bridging physical and digital layers.

Screenprinting in MR - Immersing visitors with Warhol's art techniques
Prototyped in MR on Meta Quest using Bezi, launched through location specific triggers, explained in the system diagram -

Interactive Wall - Exploring other's experiences and reflecting on your own.
Prototyped using Magic Leap and Arduino Uno- Using Magic leap for spatial detection that activates once a visitor steps into the circle on the floor. Visitors can tap to activate and listen to their option.

TECHNOLOGY EXPLORATION
MR Glasses of the Future - A Proposal
To create a comfortable and seamless experience for users, the team proposed a near-future MR headset similar in scale to Roku glasses that includes:

-
Have Gesture Recognition
-
Light-weight
-
AR and VR display technologies
-
Audio System
-
Camera
-
Wireless connectivity and
-
Cloud integration
How they would work -

Designing a future forward experience with todays technology.
To prototype the experience, I used a Meta Quest to prototype the interactions and experiences.
Gestures used from Meta's Library for interactions -

CORE EXPERIENCES
01 Floor Overview
Visitors get a glimpse of what each level of the museum talks about

02 The Artist
Talk to the artist himself over years to better understand his life and influences..
03 The Inspiration
Immersive understanding of the context behind the Soup Can painting. Step into Andy Warhol’s childhood home.

04 The Technique
Learning about the screen printing technique in an experiential manner.

05 Reflecting on the Experience
Tying the experience together with a moment of reflection. Listening to others reflection
CONTEXT
The Andy Warhol Museum is struggling to engage new audiences - most visitors are already familiar with his work, while others find the experience static and uninviting.
Here's what new visitors are saying -

So, the museum’s digital experiences team is looking for new ways to make Warhol’s work more accessible and engaging, especially for younger or first-time visitors who may not connect with traditional exhibit formats.
But these rules are complicated -
Hierarchial and clustered and can have many ways in which users will want to access them.
THE PROBLEM
How can we help visitors with minimal knowledge of Andy Warhol gain an understanding of the artist and his artwork?
THE SOLUTION
An immersive mixed reality experience that transports visitors into the vibrant world of Andy Warhol - revealing the inspirations behind his iconic art, exploring his creative process, and deepening appreciation for his cultural impact.
