Turning waiting of coffee's at barista's into engaging and educative AR experiences
Journey of a Cup is a playful AR story that unfolds as you move through a café, designed to be experienced while waiting for your drink at La Prima Espresso at CMU. It reimagines the path of a plastic coffee cup from creation to disposal, by layering data-driven visuals and light storytelling onto the physical space around you.
As users follow the natural flow of buying a coffee and exiting the café, the experience reveals the environmental impact of everyday beverage habits through humor, movement, and narrative. This combination not only boosts engagement but taps into embodied learning making abstract environmental data feel personal and memorable. Physical actions like walking through waste zones or snipping ties between visual elements reinforce the message and create emotional impact without overwhelming the user.

By aligning the story with everyday routines and using small, satisfying moments of interaction, the experience makes sustainability feel tangible, approachable, and even enjoyable.All 3D and 2D assets were custom-created and prototyped to bring the experience to life in a real café setting.
